Terms of Service
Last updated: April 28, 2026
These terms govern your use of the Vocalcord iOS application ("the app"). By installing or using Vocalcord, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
1. What Vocalcord does
Vocalcord is a utility app that plays a sound of your choice when your iPhone is connected to a charger. It works by providing an iOS Shortcuts action that you manually wire into a personal automation. The app includes a curated library of sound effects and voice clips, and lets you import your own audio files.
2. License to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use Vocalcord on iPhones you own or control, subject to Apple's standard App Store Terms of Service. You may not:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the app.
- Redistribute the app or any of its bundled sound files.
- Use the app in a way that violates applicable laws.
3. Sound library license
The sound effects and voice clips bundled with Vocalcord are licensed to you for personal, non-commercial use within the app only. You may not:
- Export, redistribute, re-upload, or republish the bundled sounds.
- Use them as content in your own app, video, podcast, or other commercial product.
- Claim authorship or ownership of any bundled sound.
Sounds you import yourself are your own responsibility. You represent that you have the right to use any imported audio.
3a. Audio clipping & user-provided content
Vocalcord lets you trim short audio segments (up to 15 seconds) for use as a charging sound on your own device. Audio enters the app through one of these paths:
- Authorized URL libraries. Vocalcord accepts URLs only from a small set of sources where authorization is verifiable per-asset or unambiguous by license: Creative Commons-licensed YouTube videos (verified server-side via the YouTube Data API), Internet Archive, Pixabay, and Free Music Archive. URLs from any other source are rejected.
- Files on your device. Audio or video files you already have in Files, Photos, Voice Memos, iCloud Drive, or screen recordings.
- iOS share sheet. Content shared into Vocalcord from another app via the iOS share sheet. The source app's own permissions decide what's exposed; Vocalcord receives only what those apps choose to share.
By using the clipping feature, you represent that:
- You either own the content, have a license to use it, or your specific use falls within an applicable exception under your local law (for example, fair use for personal, non-commercial purposes).
- Your use is strictly personal and non-commercial. Saved clips remain on your device and are never uploaded, redistributed, or used as content in any commercial context.
- You are responsible for any consequences of clipping or using that audio. Vocalcord does not host, redistribute, or publicly display the content; clipped audio is processed transiently on your behalf and stored only on your device.
Saved clips are limited to 15 seconds, encoded at preview quality (128 kbps mono AAC), and stamped with source attribution metadata. Vocalcord may refuse processing of any source at its discretion (for example, sources we don't support, links flagged by automated checks, or material reported as infringing). Vocalcord does not audit the content of individual clips you save.
4. In-app purchases
Vocalcord offers two paid unlocks:
- Lifetime Access — a one-time purchase that unlocks all current and future sounds permanently on your Apple ID.
- Yearly Access — an auto-renewing subscription that unlocks all sounds plus new monthly sound packs for as long as the subscription is active.
All purchases are processed by Apple via StoreKit. Payments, refunds, billing questions, and subscription management are handled by Apple. To manage or cancel your subscription, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Canceling stops future renewals; it does not refund past charges.
5. Refunds
Refund requests must be submitted directly to Apple via reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides refund eligibility at its sole discretion. Vocalcord does not process refunds independently because we never receive your payment information.
6. No warranty
The app is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee that the app will be error-free, that sounds will play in every edge case, or that iOS Shortcuts automations will fire reliably on every iPhone in every scenario. iOS updates, background behavior, silent mode, Focus modes, and hardware variations can all affect playback.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vocalcord and its creators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the app. Our total liability, if any, will not exceed the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months preceding the claim.
8. Acceptable use
Don't be a jerk with this. Don't import copyrighted audio you don't have rights to. Don't use the app to harass, alarm, or deceive people in ways that would be illegal or harmful. You're responsible for how you use the sounds — especially ones you import yourself.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms occasionally. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the new terms. If you don't accept them, uninstall the app.
