Does it work on iPhone 15?
Yes. Every iPhone 15 model runs iOS 17 or later, and iOS 17 has full support for Shortcuts automations — the feature that powers custom charging sounds. The setup process is identical whether you have an iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, or 15 Pro Max.
A common worry we hear: "I heard iPhone 15 switched to USB-C — does that break charging sound apps?" It doesn't. The automation fires on the charger-connected event, not the cable type.
Method 1: Using Vocalcord (fastest)
- Download Vocalcord from the App Store.
- Browse the sound library — 93 sounds organized by category. Tap any sound to preview it right in the app.
- Tap "Set as Charging Sound" and follow the guided one-time Shortcuts setup.
- Plug in your USB-C cable to test.
Follow Vocalcord’s guided one-time Shortcuts setup; the time depends on the prompts shown by iOS. Change the sound any time by opening Vocalcord and picking a different one — no Shortcuts reconfiguration needed.
Method 2: Using Shortcuts (manual)
Prefer no extra apps? The built-in Shortcuts app works:
- Save an audio file to the Files app. MP3, M4A, WAV, or AIFF all work.
- Open the Shortcuts app and tap Automation.
- Tap + → Create Personal Automation.
- Select "Charger" → "Is Connected" → Next.
- Tap "New Blank Automation", search for "Play Sound", and pick your audio file.
- Review the run setting. On supported iOS versions, select Run Immediately if you do not want a confirmation prompt. Labels vary by version.
The setup steps depend on iOS version. Full walkthrough in our complete charging sound guide.
What changed with USB-C?
The iPhone 15 series was the first to ditch Lightning. A few practical notes for charging sounds:
- Any USB-C cable works. The automation doesn't care which one.
- MagSafe still works. Apple kept the MagSafe ring on every iPhone 15 model.
- Reverse charging (15 Pro only): Plugging AirPods into your iPhone 15 Pro via USB-C does not trigger the charging sound — only incoming power does.
iOS 17 Shortcuts on iPhone 15
iPhone 15 shipped with iOS 17. Shortcuts automation behavior can vary by iOS settings and device state. Compared to iOS 14–16:
- After a restart: If an automation stops running, reopen Shortcuts and review its status.
- Review after updates: Check that the charger automation remains present and uses your preferred run behavior.
- Better background audio: Charging sounds play cleanly even when your phone is locked.
Not working?
If your sound isn't playing:
- Check silent/ring switch: Audio can depend on your iOS settings. Check the ringer and review Vocalcord’s “Play even in silent mode” option.
- Review the automation: In Shortcuts, check that the charger automation remains present. On supported iOS versions, choose Run Immediately to avoid a confirmation prompt.
- Check media volume: Play a video and crank the volume first.
